Talk to the house — a live voice

It's a real conversation, not commands: say it however you like — the house listens, answers out loud, and asks back when it isn't sure. It has its own phone number, so the conversation works even without internet.

morning

10 min · ~3h there · free

Host pick.

Rabbit Hole Beach

midday

22 min walk · ~2.5h there · free

Officially Keys Beach, but the hosts named it after the house and guests pick the name up. Quieter than the National Forest beaches, dogs welcome, and the sunset over the water is the reason to go.

Heavenly Gondola

by sunset

15 min · ~2h there · $$$ · book ahead

Straight up out of the village to the observation deck. The fastest way to get the big lake view without earning it on foot.

House

The questions guests actually ask, most-asked first. Tap one to open it.

How do I get in arrival

The smart lock is right above the front door handle: enter the last 4 digits of your phone number, then the check mark. To lock up, press the very top button. If the lock is being finicky, call the hosts right away.

What's the WiFi password

The network name and password appear right here when you open the page from your booking link. The router and modem live under the living room TV.

What time is check-in arrival 4 PM

Anytime after 4 PM. The hosts message you as soon as the house is ready — often earlier.

What time is check-out departure 10 AM

10 AM. Want a late check-out? Ask the night before — if the cleaners don't have a same-day turnaround, you'll get it.

Where do we park 4 cars max

Up to 4 cars on the driveway or in the garage. Street parking isn't allowed at rentals here and cars do get towed — carpool if you're more.

How does the heat work

The Nest thermostat is in the downstairs dining room: press its face inward to wake it, then rotate the ring to set the temperature. Cool mode won't do anything — the house has no AC.

How do I use the hot tub

Flip one half of the cover onto the lift-assist bar, then push the whole cover over the bar so it stands at the side. It's kept at 100°+ for you — just turn on the jets, and skip the menu/settings buttons. Put the cover back on after, or the tub gets cold and dirty.

What are the hot tub rules

Rinse off before getting in, and plastic cups only — no glass. The tub hums 24/7 by design; never turn it off at the emergency switch. Be gentle with the cover, it's very expensive to replace.

How do I heat the sauna ~45 min

The timer knob has two zones. For sauna now: turn it slightly clockwise into the 0–1 zone (A) — it starts heating immediately, takes 30–45 minutes to get hot, and runs for about an hour. The 1–8 zone (B) is a delayed start: set 2 and it begins heating in 2 hours. When you're done, turn the knob back to 0 and leave the door slightly open so the sauna dries. Small amounts of clean water on the stones only — never on the heater itself.

The sauna timer knob: the 0–1 zone starts it heating now, the 1–8 zone delays the start by that many hours.
How do I work the TV

The living room screen is a smart-TV projector (please baby it — it's an expensive unit): press power, and if no menu appears switch to HDMI 3. Use your own logins for the apps. The master bedroom TV has an Apple TV — power on the TV, then press any button on the Apple TV remote.

When is trash picked up Friday

Trash pick-up day is Friday.

Where does the trash go Bear box

Everything goes in the bear box — the metal container next to the driveway. Never outside, in the garage, or in the blue or green bins. If it's full, keep trash inside and message the hosts for a pick-up.

What are quiet hours 10 PM–8 AM

10 PM to 8 AM, citywide for rentals. Please head inside by 10 — the neighbors (and the permit) thank you.

Can we bring our dog 2 dogs OK

Up to 2 well-behaved, potty-trained dogs — add them to the reservation. Keep them off furniture and beds, never leave them unattended outside a crate, and pick up after them before check-out. Leashes on in the neighborhood.

Can we smoke No

No — including outside. Smoke sticks to clothes and rides indoors.

Can we have a campfire No

No. Tahoe is a high-risk fire area — fireworks, charcoal BBQs, camp fires, bonfires and open flames are strictly prohibited. The gas BBQ and the gas fire pit are the only fire allowed, and even those are restricted on red-flag days.

How many people can stay 6

Up to 6 people; kids under 13 don't count. Three bedrooms: two queens, and a full trundle that sleeps two with the lower bed pulled out.

What should we bring arrival

Provided: towels and sheets per guest, starter coffee, shampoo and soaps, dish and laundry pods, and a stocked kitchen with salt, pepper and oil. Bring extra towels for hair or the beach, extra coffee and paper goods for a long stay, and any condiments, spices or specialty cookware.

How does the BBQ work

It's a gas grill, propane provided. Check the tank before you start cooking — if it's empty, message the hosts for a refill. Charcoal is banned in Tahoe. It isn't serviced in winter, but if you dig it out you're welcome to use it.

How does the fire pit work

It's gas: turn the key on the side and you should hear gas flowing, then light the top with a log lighter, face turned away. No hiss? Open the valve on the propane tank next to the pit.

How do I run the dishwasher or washer

Same recipe for both: press power, select the normal cycle, press start. The washer and dryer are in the laundry room off the kitchen.

What if the WiFi stops working

Unplug the black power cords on both the router and the modem (under the living room TV), wait a minute, replug — sometimes it takes a couple of tries. Still nothing? Message the hosts to check for an area outage.

What if the hot water runs out

The water heater is standard residential size, and vacation showers run long — if you had hot water and now don't, it's replenishing; give it time. If you never had hot water, tell the hosts.

What if the power goes out

It's common up here — don't panic. Liberty Utilities has outage updates; most come back within hours. There are outage supplies in the linen closet — message the hosts for access.

What about bears

You're in black bear country: docile but very curious. Take all food and drink out of your car, roll up windows, lock car doors — and lock the house windows and doors when you head out. Smaller critters (mice, spiders, ants) happen in every Tahoe home; if you spot them, tell the hosts.

What do we do before checking out departure

Lock all windows and doors, turn off lights and gas appliances, take trash to the bear box, and put furniture back where it was. Don't strip beds or start laundry. In winter, leave the heat ON at 55° so the pipes don't freeze — that one matters.
